The
Key Stage 3 programme follows naturally from the
curriculum taught in Key Stages 1 and 2. All three
Key Stages follow the National Curriculum programme of
work, altered only where the Venezuelan context demands
it. Each Key Stage has introduced SATs and as such is
working towards national curriculum attainment targets
across the subjects. The use of level descriptors has
not yet been introduced to Venezuelan parents, but it is
likely that these levels will need to be explained
further to suit their needs. |
|
Key Stage 3 teaching continues the secure, family environment fostered by the earlier key stages whilst encouraging students to extend themselves further in all aspects of their schooling.
Key Stage 3 students are encouraged to be more independent and assume leadership roles around the school, which involve mentoring the younger students. By the end of
Year
7 our students are academically able and emotionally prepared to transfer across the educational system to an
International School or Venezuelan High School. We endeavour to provide support during the transfer, both to students and to parents. |
|
The Curriculum
The Key Stage 3 programme is based on the National Curriculum for England. All students are taught English, Maths, Science, Spanish, ICT, Geography, History, Art, PE,
DT, Music and PSE. The curriculum follows the QCA scheme of work where possible.
Teachers have also taken account of our Venezuelan
context and each year group takes part in a field trip
to a distinct region in Venezuela. |

Key Stage 3
students are prepared for SATs at the end of Year 7 in
Science, Maths and English. In addition students will
encounter regular end of unit tests as part of their
ongoing coursework. There are examinations at the end of
term 1 and 3. However, term 2 contains only coursework. |
|
Ethos of Key Stage 3
Form tutors have a pastoral responsibility for their
form class. Form tutors and class teachers work together
with the Key Stage Coordinator to ensure that students
receive adequate support and are meeting targets.
Parents are kept informed of student progress informally
through emails and communication via the homework diary
or through the regular parental reports and meetings
each term. |

Homework
Homework is issued to students on a regular basis. English, Maths and Spanish issue 2 homework assignments per week and the rest of the subjects issue one. Each homework assignment should take about 35-45 minutes and students average two homework slots per day. Students are issued with a school diary and are expected to keep notes on all assignments. Parents are asked to check and sign this diary each Friday.
Student Code of Conduct
In Key Stage 3 students are expected to meet the following expectations. Self-discipline is encouraged in the students. There are a number of rewards for students who exceed these standards and there are also clear sanctions in place for those students fail to meet these targets.
