Health Education

The school nurse is also responsible for the following health education programmes:

DSC00966.JPG Healthy Eating – we are a healthy eating school and have a policy outlining how this is implemented. All new families are given a copy of this policy. Younger children enjoy preparing and participating in a healthy eating picnic with their friends. Here are some suggestions in English and Spanish.
Copy of Edwina 012.jpg Sun awareness – children spend a lot of time outside, and in the tropics it is very important that they learn to protect their skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Students are expected to wear a hat at all times when out of doors and use sunscreen (provided by the school).
3C Go to the Dentist 018.jpg Sex Education (Wellness Programme) – From Y6 onwards the School Nurse works with the class teachers to provide correct information about this subject. Parents are consulted in advance.
CIMG5186.JPG Personal Hygiene – children are taught how to take care of their bodies – hand washing, bathroom care, dental care etc.
First Aid – All senior children receive basic training in First Aid.
Curriculum support – the school nurse supports various aspects of the school curriculum including health and safety in the home, drug use and abuse and the spread of germs.
